July 2010

A big HI to all ISPI-FRC members!

I am honored and excited to step up to the role of President of the ISPI Front Range Chapter for 2010-2011. I look forward to working with all of our Chapter members and the members of our Board to continue to make the ISPI-FRC a valuable tool for everyone in Human Performance Improvement.

To start, I’d like to give some sincere Thank You's:

Thank You to Jim Schultz for his dedication and leadership as President over the past year. We had some tough challenges to overcome, but we came through with Jim's leadership and guidance. Never one to rest on his laurels, Jim will continue with the Board as the VP of Finance.

Thank You to everyone on the Board, old and new! As a volunteer organization, we rely on the commitment and generosity of the members who step up to a leadership role to keep us going.

Thank YOU – the members and supporters of ISPI-FRC. You are the reason we are here.

2010 - 2011 Board Members:

I am pleased that so many of the members of the 2009-2010 Board are continuing on for 2010-2011: Andrea Moore, VP Membership; Roy Batzel, Member Retention Chair; Nathan Colbert, VP Marketing; Chuck Ferguson, VP Technology; Kathy Lamos and Bill Corbin, co-VPs Academic Liaison; and Jim Schultz, VP Finance. The members of our Steering Committee are: Mark Laurin, Leslie Brumfiel, and Jim Schultz.

We also have several members who are new to the Board for 2010-2011: David Sprouse, VP Programs; Barb Leon, Social Media Director; and Bill Mount, Corporate Liaison Chair.

There are still a couple of open Board positions and lots of opportunities for you to join with us on committees or to volunteer for a specific event or activity – such as helping with the Scholarship Committee or working on a Special Event. As the old saying goes, “many hands make light work”, so if you are interested in volunteering or would like some additional information, send me an email at jraphaelson@gmail.com, ask ask any member of the Board (contact information is on the ISPI-FRC website), or pick up a Volunteer Application at a member meeting.

Keep in Touch:

Networking is a great tool and we have several different ways for you to keep in touch with other members.

Update your Profile.  Next time you log into the ISPI-FRC website, take a few extra seconds and add / update your Profile (Members section). It’s a great way to introduce yourself to the group and market your skills.

Moving Forward:

The ongoing mission of ISPI-FRC is to make our organization a valuable resource for our members. Toward this end, I have set the following goals for 2010-2011:

  • continue to provide interesting, thought-provoking, and informative programs and networking opportunities, that help our members learn new skills, broaden their professional horizons, and advance their careers
  • build relationships with other local organizations and with corporate, government and academic communities in the region to broaden member opportunities and share expertise
  • develop strategies to promote ISPI-FRC to human performance practitioners throughout the Front Range, with the aim of adding new members (both individual and corporate) and becoming more active in our communities.

If you have suggestions or recommendations for ways to help us achieve these goals, please contact me. I value your input.

What's Coming Up?

This year will be a great one for programs, networking and activities. Go to our website at www.ispi-frc.org for more information on these great events and to reserve your seat.

  • Second Annual Combined Summer Social!
Whether you are looking for work, want to broaden your network, add resources to your contact list, or just have a great evening with friends, make your reservations NOW for July 28, 2010. We are co-sponsoring a networking event (hors d’oeuvres and drinks included) with ASTDRMC, the NSA – Colorado, and the Denver Coach Federation. Last year, we had to limit the event to 150 people because of space limitations – this year, we have a bigger space and are hoping for many, many more participants in this great networking Extravaganza! Details and registration information is available on our website or through ASTDRMC (www.astdrmc.org).
  • September 15, 2010:
Ed Muzio, two-time ISPI award-winning author, brings the ground-breaking content of his second book, Make Work Great to ISPI-FRC in September. During his presentation, Ed will provide a tool for defining your purpose amidst overwhelming and conflicting responsibilities, and give you an opportunity to practice using it during this interactive, multimedia session. Don’t miss this one!
  • Save the dates:
We have a great presentation scheduled for October 20, as well as a special networking event on December 8. Additional details will be available soon, so mark your calendars and save the dates!

Let me wrap up by saying again how much I look forward to my time as President. I hope I will have the opportunity to meet each of you in person during one of our upcoming Member Meetings.

Best regards,
